WHO DO YOU DRESS FOR?

One of my girlfriends was getting ready for a date. Her closet had thrown up across the room, and she was sitting helplessly in the center of her clothing chaos. I put together a few outfits, trying to ease her stress, but she rejected them all without a second thought, followed by, "You, you dress for women. I am going on a date with a MAN." …. ouch. (apology via text followed one hour later)

At first, I must admit I was slightly offended. Me? Unable to dress for a man? Then, as I stared into my closet, overwhelmed with button downs and utter "man-repellers", I realized stressed-out-man-crazy friend has a point: I dress for myself and other women. As with any cliché story, my prior outrage had turned into a pride. I adorn myself like a Christmas tree, wear lipsticks of every hue, and opt to wear boyfriend jeans over skinnies any day; all of which were confirmed to be unattractive to most of the opposite sex. I'd rather turn the head of a woman over a man's because she understands the women's body, the struggle one faces to dress it, and the wide array of styling options we are faced with. She is more appreciative of my efforts.

Who's head are you turning down the streets?

XOXO S.

  1. Yes! Love this. Way too often we get carried away by what another person thinks of us. I neither dress for a man or a woman. As I've gotten older I dress for myself first and foremost and comfort has become a priority for me. I must admit as you have stated, it does feel good when a compliment comes from a woman because she does understand. Plus it takes a confident woman to openly give out a compliment. Nice post!

  2. I DO dress for myself always and probably always will - and my man loves it! :)
It is all about staying true to yourself, in my opinion.

  3. Interesting post! Well what pops first into my mind is I dress for myself. If I feel good the rest comes along pretty well so to speak. Bur on a second thought I might dress also for others as well. I mean it depends on what we have to dress for, job, date, whatever. So I think we dress for what we think is appropriate, that kinda thing? I dunno, lol. Would you like to follow each other on GFC? Please let me know on my blog so I can follow back. Thank you.
