UNDERESTIMATING THE BASICS

I definitely oversold these shorts when I saw them. My exact words in the heat of the moment were, "OMG mom, do you know how many outfits I can make with these?! They're a basic pair of trouser shorts...we have to buy them." With an eye roll and a sigh, she swiped that magic money card. Thanks, mom.

Fast forward to a few hours later when we were heading off to a barbecue. With a determined and thoughtful gaze, I stared deep into my overflowing, almost vomiting closet to find an appropriate top. You'd think a girl that owns a fashion blog would also own a basic black shirt. Well, you thought wrong.

As my mother always tells me, "Stop buying barbeshi (arabic for crap, junk, ect.,), and start buying basics and classics." I think I'll listen when I stop having access to her wardrobe, which is filled with all the basics my heart could ever desire. Until then, barbeshi it is.

XOXO S.

  1. You're so lucky your mom's closet is accessible. Though I find my mom to be well dressed, our styles and sizes are different, and often even she, the only other female closet in my household, comes up short. You'd think that between two women I'd find something. Alas, never the case. Basics should be the core of a closet, and yet I finding myself leaving store after store, with yet another printed dress...or two... 😳
